The Opening Night Reception is a tribute to one of the most iconic events in South Dakota. The Sturgis Motorcycle Classic is the largest gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts in the United States. Every August, bikers from all over the nation and the world descend on Sturgis, SD. Enjoy food, drink and music as if you were attending the actual Rally.

Kick back, relax and enjoy as you catch up with old acquaintances and make some new friends. Grab a drink and a bite to eat then stop by the tattoo parlor before you visit the photo booth to get your picture taken in leathers atop a Harley Davidson as if you were on the Main Street of Sturgis. In keeping with the spirit of the event, you are encouraged to “Show your Colors” by wearing your favorite shirt to promote your favorite posse. This will give you a chance to show off your pride for your state, company or favorite professional, college or high school sports team. There may be a few more surprises in store – so don’t miss this fun event!

Join us at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn between 6:00pm – 8:00pm (CDT).

The State Night Reception will be held on Monday, June 11th at a few of South Dakota’s “Great Places”.

The first “Great Place” will take you to South Dakota’s first and largest state park, Custer State Park, with a stop at the historic State Game Lodge, President Coolidge’s “Summer White House” in 1927. In a unique outdoor setting, you will be treated to a truly South Dakota dinner featuring walleye and buffalo prime rib.

After dinner, you will continue to other “Great Places” on the Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway past both Legion and Stockade Lakes with views of the Needles. You will travel past Crazy Horse Memorial where the first of our “Great Faces” is carved in granite. The journey will continue to Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, America's Shrine of Democracy. Mount Rushmore features the “Great Faces” of four American presidents who represent the birth, growth, development and preservation of this country. You will stay for an evening ceremony in the outdoor Amphitheater which highlights the making of this national monument with a video, flag lowering ceremony, a salute to veterans and lighting of the memorial.

Evening temperatures at the Memorial frequently drop into 40-50’s. Be sure to bring a light jacket.
